Introduction
More quality. More solutions.
MYSON is one of the oldest and most respected names in the British heating industry. It has a heritage stretching back to the early days of central heating.
Today, MYSON is part of a Finnish, family owned company, Rettig ICC (Indoor Climate Control). Rettig ICC has factories and sales operations in all major European markets, China and the USA. With annual sales of over EUR500 million, Rettig ICC is Europe’s leading radiator, controls and underfloor heating company.
Consequently, MYSON now offers an unrivalled and constantly improving selection of heating solutions. This design product brochure introduces our latest range of towel warmers, decorative radiators, electric heating, fan convectors and accessories.
Whether you are planning a new build project, doing renovation work or adding an extension, MYSON has the optimum heating solution for you. Choose MYSON and you can be confident that you are using the highest quality products and receiving the highest quality service available:
Warranties:
All MYSON towel warmers and design radiators have a 10 year warranty. Fan convector elements, valves, accessories and thermostats carry a 2 year warranty. For electric underfloor, the electric mat carries a 10 year warranty and the thermostat carries a 2 year warranty.
Certifications:
MYSON towel warmers and design radiators are manufactured and tested in accordance with BS EN 442, which certifies independent approval of heat outputs, unless otherwise stated. Products highlighted ‘No Performance Declared’ (NPD) have heat outputs below the measurable limits of EN 442 test methods and calculated outputs are therefore shown.
Convectors are tested to BS 4856 Part 1 for heating and Part 2 for cooling, and are manufactured to quality system BS EN ISO 9001. All manufacturing sites are approved to the environmental standard BS EN ISO 14001.
Availability:
The MYSON design product range is now more widely available than ever before through our strong relationships with leading national heating and plumbing merchants/distributors, which means that MYSON products are always available where and when you need them. All MYSON towel warmers are now supplied from stock, eliminating manufacturing lead times and ensuring that products are despatched to you as soon as you order them.
Packaging:
All MYSON products are packed in robust cardboard packaging specially designed to ensure that the product reaches you in perfect condition.
Pressure Testing:
Products in the contemporary and traditional ranges are pressure tested to 6.9 bar (maximum operating pressure 5.3 bar).
Products in the multi-rail range are pressure tested to 9.6 bar (maximum operating pressure 7.4 bar).
Important technical information.
1/2" tappings:
All products featured now come with ½" tappings. Some products were previously supplied with ¾" tappings. A special valve tail will be required if a new product with ½" tappings is being purchased to replace an existing one with ¾" tappings.
Dual fuel:
This allows a hydronic product to be used if the hot water central heating system is not active. The pipe centres featured in this brochure are based on hydronic products. When adding heater kits to multi-rails, a T-piece and element will be required that alters the pipe center dimensions (see below). The difference in pipe centers featured are based on using MYSON valves. These differences may vary on other manufacturers’ valves. For the most efficient operation, one valve should be open and one valve should be closed. Avoid closing both valves.

IP ratings:
IP ratings are shown for all electrical products. This must be considered when installing in a location containing a bath or shower, as defined by BS 7671.
Dezincification:
In certain areas, the local water can gradually remove zinc from brass alloys. This process is called dezincification and, on rare occasions and over time, can affect the integrity of a brass product. All MYSON brass products are manufactured using dezincification resistant brass. This, however, does not entirely eliminate the possibility of dezincification occurring. These products can be used on any hot water central heating system and are identified within the brochure using the "tap" symbol. Please note, however, this does not affect the stainless steel products on pages 9-14. MYSON insist that you ask your heating engineer/installer if this problem applies to your area, as MYSON cannot be held responsible for any resulting damage.
Auto Power Management system (APM®):
APM® represents the most advanced element technology available. It is an economical, self-regulating element. When it reaches the required temperature, it reduces power consumption accordingly. There is no need for a thermostat. The required temperature is achieved smoothly and stays constant. APM® is now fitted to all PTC heater kits and most MYSON electric units where stated.
Electrical installation:
All electrical models must be hard wired and installed in the correct orientation by a qualified electrician, in accordance with the IEE wiring regulations BS 7671.
Fixings:
For the correct installation of designer radiators and towel warmers, it is essential that the fixing of the radiator is carried out in such a way that it is suitable for intended use AND predictable misuse. A number of elements need to be taken into consideration including the fixing method used to secure the designer radiator or towel warmer to the wall, the type and condition of the wall itself, and any additional potential forces or weights that may happen to be applied to the designer radiator or towel warmer, prior to finalising installation.
Deciding on your heating needs.
The amount of heat output required in a room to provide the warmth you need, is primarily dictated by the size of the room in question. Just as this size varies from room to room, so will the level of heat output required. The simplest way to identify the heat output needed for an individual room is to, firstly, calculate the volume of the room in cubic metres (m3) and then multiply this number by 50 to find the Watts requirement. MYSON insist that you always confirm your heating requirements with your heating engineer/installer.
For example, the volume of a room 2.4m high, 2m wide and 4m long would be 2.4 x 2 x 4 = 19.2 m3.
The recommended heat output required for this room would therefore be 19.2 x 50 = 960 Watts.
Hot water central heating systems.
Direct/open systems use your domestic hot water supply to heat radiators and towel rails, whereas indirect/closed systems operate independently. Products made from brass are suitable for any hot water central heating system but steel products should only be fitted to indirect/closed systems.
How to order your product.
More choice. Fewer steps.
To ensure that you obtain your optimum heating solutions, simply follow the six steps below:
1. Method of heating:
Start by choosing your preferred method of heating. Whether your priority is what looks best, what is most practical or what is most economical, MYSON have the optimum heating method for you. Models from our range of towel warmers, decorative radiators, electric heating or fan convectors can be used exclusive or collectively, depending on your requirements.
2. Heat outputs:
Calculate your required heat output for the room. The amount of heating required from your choice of heating method varies from room to room, according to its size. See ‘Deciding on your heating needs’ on page 6.
3. System requirements:
See ‘Hot water central heating systems’ on page 6, or contact your heating engineer/installer, to help you specify the product needed for your heating system.
4. Select the right model:
Once you have decided on your method of heating, your heat output requirements and established the hot water central heating system you wish to run the product on, select the correct model to satisfy your needs.
5. Controls & accessories:
The decisions you need to make are not all technical! MYSON offer a broad range of controls and accessories to complement your chosen product. Whether you desire a contemporary or traditional style, MYSON have the options that will give you what you want.
