National Radiator Day: why accurate radiator data matters

November 1st is National Radiator Day, and the Manufacturers’ Association of Radiators and Convectors (MARC) is encouraging the heating industry to check its radiator data. For installers, reliable heat output figures are essential to getting the specification right and giving customers confidence in the heating system they invest in.

Choosing the right radiator starts with understanding how much heat a room needs and whether the product can deliver it under the intended operating conditions. That depends on accurate product data.

This National Radiator Day, MARC is reminding the industry to check that radiator performance claims are supported by recognised testing and clearly presented in product information.

It's a message Myson has long championed, taking pride in providing reliable performance data and clear technical information that helps installers specify with confidence and maintain the trust of their customers.

Three things to check when specifying radiators:

1. Check the declared heat output

Heat output figures should be supported by appropriate test evidence and declared at both ΔT50 and ΔT30 for radiators covered by BS EN 442. Be cautious when comparing headline wattage figures quoted at ΔT60 or higher without clear context. A higher figure does not necessarily reflect the output a radiator will deliver under your system's operating conditions.

2. Check the supporting documentation

Make sure the radiator has a compliant Declaration of Performance (DoP) and that its declared output matches the manufacturer's technical information. Consistent, reliable data helps you compare products on a like-for-like basis and make informed specification decisions.

3. Match the radiator to the room and system

Accurate heat loss calculations are only as useful as the product data behind them. Selecting a radiator with overstated output figures could leave a room underheated, even when the installation itself has been carried out correctly.

This is particularly important when specifying for lower temperature heating systems, including heat pumps, where the radiator heat output needs careful consideration at the intended operating temperatures.

Confidence starts with the right information

Customers rely on installers to recommend heating solutions that deliver the comfort they expect. Having confidence in the data behind a specification helps you make informed recommendations, manage expectations and avoid unnecessary troubleshooting after installation.

Myson’s parent company, Purmo Group, is proud to be a member of MARC, supporting the industry's work to promote accurate product information and compliance with recognised standards.

This National Radiator Day, our message is: check the data before you specify. Reliable heat output figures help installers make informed decisions, support better heating performance and maintain the trust customers place in their expertise.
