Zabrania się opróżniania całej instalacji lub jej części z wody i pozostawiania w tym stanie. Dotyczy to również nowych instalacji poddanych próbom szczelności. W razie potrzeby opróżnienia instalacji np. z powodu remontu lub konserwacji, wodę należy usunąć tylko z tej części instalacji, z której jest to niezbędne. Po wykonaniu prac opróżnioną instalację należy natychmiast ponownie napełnić wodą. Ilość wody zużywanej do napełniania i uzupełniania instalacji centralnego ogrzewania należy kontrolować np. przy pomocy wodomierza.
